EDUCATION :: Educational Programmes - Permanent
Over the past two decades the Museum has been firmly established as an alternative place of learning, initiating a fruitful collaboration between school and museum either through educational visits, organized and supervised usually by schools, or -mainly- through educational programs organised by the museums on their own initiative.
The permanent educational programs of the Archaeological Museum of Igoumenitsa are addressed to preschool-kindergarten, elementary and junior high school (gymnasium) students and have been designed to provide channels of communication between the Museum and its young guests. Their design is based on modern perceptions of museum-education that promote a child-centered and experiential approach to learning, encourage exploration and discovery on the part of students, stimulate their senses and critical thinking and allow for mutual communication and cooperation.
The programmes’ activities create the necessary preconditions to familiarize students with the archaeological wealth of the local area and contribute to the understanding and interpretation of museum exhibits. In this context any educational program is converted into a pleasant educational adventure that attracts children and raises the expectation of the next visit.
In addition to the specific objectives set separately in each program, all programs generally aim at:
- The development of cooperation and team spirit among students
- The practice in correlating data, speculating and drawing conclusions
- The development of skills, imagination and creativity
- Forming a positive image of the museum institution through an enjoyable experience
The educational programmes are provided free. They are available in greek, unless otherwise specified
